Citizens Scholarship
The Citizens Scholarship awards a monthly prize of $2,500 and a grand prize of $15,000. Both students and their parents/sponsors can enter*! Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship
The Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship awards a $2,000 college scholarship to 30 Iowa high school students each year. Voice of Democracy Youth Scholarship
Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 64,500 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $2 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
The national first place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school.

Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship
To be considered for the scholarships, a graduating high school student must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA), be involved in extracurricular activities, and be accepted into an accredited higher education institution (including community colleges and technical schools), seeking a major and/or minor in an ag-related field or one that will support rural Iowa.

Elks Most Valuable Student Competition
Eligibility:
- Be a current high school senior, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States and show financial need.
- You do not have to be a member (or a be dependent of a member) of the Elks to qualify.
- High school graduates are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.

Kanoski Bresney Stand up to Distracted Driving Scholarship
Distracted driving, including due to texting and other cell phone use, is a serious issue that leads to hundreds of thousands of accidents and injuries in the United States each year. The problem is especially prominent among teen and young adult drivers, and teens are also at a greater risk of being the victim of a distracted driving accident.
At Kanoski Bresney, we want to support students who do their part to fight the problem of distracted driving. Through the Kansoki Bresney Stand Up to Distracted Driving Scholarship program, we are offering five scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, to students in the U.S. who are pursuing higher education at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Eligibility:
- You are a high school senior who will be starting your college or university education in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
- You are a U.S. citizen.
- You have a current overall GPA of at least 3.0.

Hagan Scholarship
The Hagan Scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters, providing recipients with the opportunity to graduate college debt-free.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must attend a high school located in the United States.
- All high school students eligible regardless of nationality.
- Must be fluent in the English language.
- Must be in the high school graduating class.
- Must have achieved an unweighted 3.50 CGPA based on a 4.0 Grading Scale.
- Must enroll in an eligible four-year College or University the first fall semester following high school graduation.
- The scholarship cannot be used to attend a community college, junior college, or online institution.
- Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule, or complete the equivalent of a four year degree if in a professional program.
- Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2026 until September 1, 2026. Work must be regularly scheduled employment performed under supervision for compensation. Employment can be full-time or part-time.
- Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2024 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000. “Household Income” is defined as the total income received by all adult members of a household living under the same roof.
- Applicants are not required to provide FAFSA information. Finalists must provide the FAFSA Summary showing the SAI.
- Must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible.

The Coolidge Scholarship
The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the United States. Any high school JUNIOR who plans to enroll in college in the fall of 2023 and is an American citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply (current high school seniors are not eligible to apply). Winners may use the scholarship to pursue any academic major.

Scott and Kim Verplank Foundation Scholarship
The Scott and Kim Verplank Foundation provides annually, renewable college scholarships to students beginning their undergraduate studies of up to $10,000 to be used toward tuition, student fees, and books. Scholarships are renewable for up to a maximum of four years for any one recipient based on completing the renewal requirements. Recipients are selected from a pool of applicants meeting the following criteria.

- High School Senior (students already in college are not eligible)
- Childhood diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes
- Successfully managing diabetes with proper medication, exercise and diet
- Commitment to education by maintaining in excess of a 3.0 grade point average

Jim Hallihan Character Legacy Scholarship
The Jim Hallihan Character Legacy Scholarship was created by his family in memory of a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, coach and friend. Jim believed that good character was even more important than grades, success in sports, or excelling in other talents. He believed in mentoring young people and often talked about the biblical principle of how challenges in life create perseverance which builds character and leads to hope.
The scholarship will provide applicants with the opportunity to share some of those challenges and experiences where their character was tested, and they prevailed with good decisions and caring actions. We hope to provide opportunities for first generation college students and/or underrepresented populations on a college campus. Through stories and narratives, the focus will be on community service, volunteering, involvement in religious organizations and schools, and references of good character.

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Scholarship
Each year, the U.S. Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Foundation grants $1,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at an accredited post-secondary college or university. James B. Morris Scholarship Awards
The James B. Morris Scholarship Fund (MSF) provides financial assistance, motivation and opportunities for minority students pursuing post-secondary and graduate degrees. GreenState Scholarship Opportunity (NEW)!!
The GreenState Give & Grow Scholarship Program emphasizes the importance of “Giving Back to our Communities” through volunteer hours and contributions to non-profit organizations. GreenState Credit Union will award up to three $2,500 non-renewable college scholarships to GreenState members who plan to attend an accredited college or university as full-time, first-year students. Qualified students planning to attend a community, trade, or technical college will be considered.

Team Type 1 funds college scholarships of up to $10,000 to help young, talented athletes with type 1 diabetes off-set the cost of diabetes care so they can focus on what matters…their health and their college education. The Mary and Moriah Reiman Scholarship (NEW)!!
This scholarship is awarded annually to a City High School, West High School, or Liberty High School female graduate in memory of Mary and Moriah Reiman. Mary Reiman was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood through which this scholarship is administered. Moriah, her daughter, was a graduate of West High School. Both died as a result of an automobile accident in 2005. The scholarship will be at least $1,000.00, and will be awarded to the recipient’s school in the first college semester. Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize a young woman who has exhibited outstanding citizenship, scholarship, and concern for others throughout her high school years.

Hills Bank Leadership Grant Application
Open to current high school Juniors in eastern Iowa, this program offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable leadership skills and earn a 4-H Scholarship. You do not need to be a current Iowa 4-H member to apply for the Leadership Scholarship program.
For current High School Juniors- Hills Bank Leadership Grant applicants will also need 2 letters of recommendation from either a community member, employer, or volunteer and from a school teacher or academic advisor.
Within the application is a section to send the request to each reference for a letter to be submitted on your behalf. Please begin your application in a timely fashion to give your references time to submit their letter.

Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation Scholarship
The Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation Scholarships will award up to 15 scholarships of $3,000 each to selected students in the Spring. The scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing automotive-related studies, including auto, collision, or diesel technology; sales; accounting;marketing; or business administration. Utility-Focused Scholarship
Each $2,000 scholarship will be distributed to the educational institution. To apply, candidates must fill out and submit the Utility Focused Scholarship Application.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must:
Live in a residence that is a verified customer of an Iowa Association Municipal Utilities (IAMU) member or attend a high school that is a verified customer of an IAMU member. If you are unsure whether your local area is an IAMU member, contact your city hall.
- Be a current year graduating high school senior or have previously graduated from high school.
- Be attending a post high school education program located in Iowa in the fall.
- Preference will be given to applicants entering a utility-related career with a special preference to applicants entering utility-related trades programs leading to careers in difficult to fill utility careers such as, as an example only, electric line worker, water treatment or distribution operator, or operator qualified natural gas positions.

DPO Scholarship Application (NEW)!
The Iowa City Community Schools Districtwide Parent Organization (DPO) Scholarship was established in 1954 in honor of Kate Wickham, who taught in the Iowa City Schools from 1902 to 1939. These scholarships are made possible by donations from Parent Teacher Organizations, individuals, and area groups in honor of named individuals who have contributed to our schools.
We will celebrate both the seniors’ winning scholarships and the Honorees at the DPO Honoree & Scholarship Reception at the ICCSD Center for Innovation on Wednesday, April 8th at 6PM.
Scholarship Eligibility:
- Seniors attending high school in the Iowa City Community School District
- Plan to pursue a college education to teach in K-12 schools

Scholarship Application Form: This is for graduating seniors who plan to pursue a teacher education program in college.

First Friday Breakfast Club (FFBC) Scholarship
FFBC awards annual scholarships to outstanding Iowa high school seniors who fight homophobia and educate their schools and/or communities about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ) issues. Academic excellence, extracurricular activities and community involvement also factor into the awards. The scholarships are $3,000 each. The number of awards varies each year based on the number and quality of applicants and the funds available. Applicants must be Iowa residents.

Gregg Bentler Memorial Scholarship (NEW)!!
Gregg Bentler served as the University of Iowa’s public address announcer for more than two decades, lending his voice to men’s basketball, baseball, gymnastics, the Iowa Heartlanders, and a wide range of local high-school events. Known for his cheerfulness and kindness, Gregg greeted everyone with a larger-than-life smile and brought warmth and positivity to every arena he entered. His voice energized the in-game experience while never making the spotlight about himself. He celebrated athletes, moments, and community with humility and care. He was not only the voice of the Hawkeyes, but a voice of hope that made fans, family, friends, and athletes alike feel welcome, supported, and seen. Because of his compassion and community-minded spirit, Gregg’s legacy continues to reflect a deep commitment to mental health, support, and standing with those facing personal challenges. This scholarship honors student-athletes who embody Gregg’s legacy by using sports as a platform for leadership, encouragement, and mental-health advocacy on the court or the field and within their school and community.

International Association of Arson Investigators Iowa Chapter (Reynold C. Hentges Memorial Scholarship)
Each year, the Chapter selects two individuals to receive a one-time $1000 scholarship. The scholarship award is disbursed as follows: $500 for fall semester and $500 for spring semester. Award checks will be made payable to the recipient and the school the recipient is attending. Applicants must be a resident of Iowa and have been accepted to or enrolled as either an online or resident student in a nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school. Applicants must major in a field of education promoting a career in one of the following professions or area of study: Fire Service, Fire Science, Law Enforcement, Law, Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Protection Technology, or Insurance

Ag Coop Safety Leaders of Iowa Scholarship (NEW)!!
The Ag Coop Safety Directors of Iowa Scholarship is open to high school Seniors looking to go on to a career in an Agriculture or Safety related field and must be planning to attend college/university during the upcoming school year. Marine Corps League Scholarship
The Cedar Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League is pleased to offer a $500 Scholarship. The applicant or the applicant’s sponsoring relative must be eligible for regular membership in the Marine Corps League. The sponsoring relative may be a parent, sibling or grandparent. This includes step-parents, step siblings and step grandparents.

Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship
In honor of former Iowa State University basketball player Brian Pearson, who died of brain cancer in the fall of 1997, the Iowa Games began awarding the Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship in 1998. One $1,000 scholarship annually will be awarded to one male and one female Iowan. Throughout the selection process, the degree of participation in the Iowa Games will be given consideration, as well as the applicant’s display of character.

Old Capitol Kiwanis Scholarship (NEW)
Leadership, service, and involvement are ideals fostered by the Kiwanis organization. The Old Capitol Kiwanis Scholarships are designed to recognize "all-around" students for contributions made to their schools, homes, and communities. Students honored will have demonstrated positive leadership, unselfish service, and willing involvement. This award is open to any graduating senior at an Iowa City Community Schools High School who intends to further his/her education at a

The R. Creig Slayton Memorial Scholarship (NEW)
We are pleased to offer a one-year non-renewable $2500 college scholarship to be available for the 2026-2027 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded to a blind or visually impaired individual planning to attend on a full-time basis a fully accredited community college, college, or university. The Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS Scholarship
The Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS® (ICAAR) Scholarship Foundation is happy to announce the opening of applications for the 2023 ICAAR Community Service Scholarship Program. We have designated $4,000 to be split between multiple recipients that are graduating seniors at high schools within the ICAAR service area (Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Washington and Muscatine Counties). The student must attend school in one of the aforementioned counties.

Matt Bertell Memorial Scholarship (NEW)!!
The Bertell family is pleased to announce a scholarship in Matt Bertell’s name. Matt Bertell was born and raised in Iowa City. Matt graduated from West High School in Iowa City in 2016. Matt loved bowling and bowled all 4 years of high school on the West High bowling team. After graduation from West High, Matt went on to the University of Iowa, where he was a Sport Management Major, and also bowled competitively on the University of Iowa Bowling Club team.
The Scholarship will be awarded annually, with at least one $1,000 award, or two $500 awards (to multiple recipients). Additional scholarship awards will be presented any year when additional funds are available for distribution. The scholarship award decisions will be made and communicated by May 3rd each year, with tuition payments made directly to the attending institution(s) that fall (August/September), before the tuition payments are due.

Rise Fellowship Scholarship (NEW)!!
The Rise Fellowship is a one-year leadership development program through Parkview Church in Iowa City, designed for students attending the University of Iowa. The program includes career-specific mentorship, leadership huddles, and guided opportunities for spiritual growth as students prepare for lives of influence in their careers and communities. A $3,000 scholarship is available for select students.

Esias Grimes Memorial Memorial Scholarship (NEW)!!
Esias Grimes loved people and wanted everyone to be treated kindly. His life inspired many people as he persisted through challenges with a positive attitude and a smile. He was a student at Van Allen, Wickham, and Garner Elementary Schools. Esias died suddenly of a seizure in January of 2021 when he was a 7th grader at North Central Junior High. His family and friends wish for his memory to live on and bless others by helping them persevere through obstacles in their lives. This $1,500 scholarship is open to anyone who is a graduating senior in ICCSD, whether they plan to go into college, trade school, military, or the work force. Priority will be given to LHS students and those who plan to go into fields that serve children and adults with disabilities.

Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship
$5000 scholarships for students planning to attend the University of Iowa – eligibility criteria include: must be of the Protestant faith, resident of the State of Iowa, and plan to attend University of Iowa full-time. Selection includes good academics and character.

Elevate Scholarship Program
Each year, Elevate awards 15 $500 scholarships to high school seniors who are attending an Iowa Community College in the fall for a career in advanced manufacturing. Examples of eligible training programs include welding, computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining, industrial automation, industrial maintenance, robotics, tool and die, and transportation and logistics. Each community college will be recognized.

Association of Information Technology Professionals Scholarship
The Omaha chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), in partnership with AIM and major financial support from the Team Software Chad Nourse Scholarship Fund, provides academic scholarships to deserving students who are either planning on attending or continuing to attend a college, university, community college, or technical school in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, North Dakota, and South Dakota, with the goal of achieving an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

SchoolHouse Connection Scholarship
Our program is the nation’s only national scholarship program specifically providing youth that have experienced homelessness with comprehensive support to and through higher education and into the workforce. You’re eligible to apply if you were born on or after June 2nd, 2005, and plan to start college for the first time in 2026. Don’t worry if you’ve earned some college credit through a high school program—you’re still eligible. Whether you’re a high school junior, enrolled in a GED or alternative education program, or a recent high school graduate or GED recipient, you’re welcome to apply as long as you’ll start college for the first time in 2026.

City High Senior Scholarships
THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE 25-26 SCHOOL YEAR.
Arthur B Cornwall Scholarship: Scholarship to a City High School senior who plans to continue their education at a college, trade, or vocational school. The recipient should not be in the top 25% of their class (GPA under 3.9) and should be a person of good character who shows promise.
Ben Ringena Relay Scholarship: The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating City High Boys Track athlete who may not always shine in individual events but is a consistent and reliable contributor in relays. Chosen by City High Track Coach
Bud Williams Cross Country Scholarship: Two scholarships (one male, one female) for senior cross-country members. Academics are also considered. Students must complete freshman year Cross Country season in good standing to receive the award. Scholarship will be paid out at the end of the Freshman season when qualifications are met.
Butch Miller Trades Scholarship: Awarded to multiple graduating City High school seniors who are planning to work in the trades (i.e carpentry, metalwork, construction, or manufacturing) and pursuing advanced training through community
college, apprenticeship, certificate, or diploma program.
Candace Wiebener Excellence Scholarship: The scholarship is for a student who has demonstrated high levels of excellence, discipline, dedication, and excellence in academics.
Christian Green ’94 Choral Music Scholarship - This scholarship is designed to recognize a senior member of Concert Choir or Chamber Choir who most exemplifies the character of Christian, including: spunk, inquisitive, creative, great sense of humor, and who contributes to a positive, up-lifting atmosphere in the classroom.
City High Scholarship: Amount to be determined. City High graduating senior with excellent academics and character.
City High Alumni Scholarship: Scholarships for graduating City High seniors. Based on service to and positive impact on school and community, extracurricular activities, and academics. In addition to the application, students must submit a 300 word essay on, “How I have positively impacted my community through my involvement in service-oriented activities”.
David Braverman Community Service Scholarship: scholarship for a senior who has excelled in community service.
Doug Robertson Scholarship: Awarded to a senior whose health has presented additional challenges during high school.
Dr. Greg Grove Musician-Athlete Scholarship - The Greg Grove Musician/Athlete Scholarship is designed to honor students for involvement in both music and athletics during their time at City High, recognizing the extraordinary amount of time and commitment required to represent City High in both arenas simultaneously.
Emma Nugent Memorial Scholarship Fund: Emma Nugent embodied a positive attitude and support of others. Whether it was on the volleyball court, in band, academics, youth group, ambassadors, or tennis she always had a can-do positive attitude and supported everyone around her. She was always willing to help out whether it was leaf-raking with her youth group at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, peer-mentoring in volleyball practice, section leading for the flutes, helping a classmate with
an assignment, and so much more. Emma was there for people in need and was a very loyal friend with a level head on her shoulders. She was the one her peers went to for solid advice. Her days were packed and full with fun, sports, music, art, youth group, service, and
academics.
The following words described who Emma was as a person: Positive , Kind , Artistic , Musical , High effort , Engaged, Leader, Selfless , Service to school/community Loyal, Driven,Competitive. These are all words that described who Emma was
as a person. For this essay, choose at least three of the words in the above list that describe you, giving specific examples for each. Suggested length 250-500 words.
Gary Garton Memorial Scholarship: Scholarship for a City High graduating senior who plans to pursue a science or science education major in college. Based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and financial need (Copy of FAFSA is required).
ICCSD Administrators’ Scholarship: Scholarship for students planning to pursue a major and career in Education.
John Geerdes Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is intended to support a student who plans to pursue any form of post-secondary education, including at a trade school, community college or university. Priority consideration will be given
to students who come from an immigrant background and demonstrate financial need..
John Raffensperger Scholarship: Scholarships for a senior Men’s Track Team member. Selection based on a student athlete who has made a significant contribution to the team, academic achievement, citizenship, financial need, and plans to attend a two-year or four-year college.
Kathy Riddle Memorial Scholarship: One scholarship – amount to be determined – for a senior Girls Basketball Team member. Selection based on a student athlete who has made a significant contribution to the team, academic achievement, citizenship, and plans to attend a two-year or four-year college.
Leman Family Scholarship: Awarded to graduating seniors who are interested in using business to craft a better world. Interested students must submit a 300 word essay on how you plan to use industry and enterprise to make a difference. **Not exclusive to Business majors. All majors will be considered.
Marjorie Anderson Smith Business Scholarship: Two scholarships – amount to be determined. Plan to pursue a business-related major at a four-year or two-year college. Based on academics, activities, character, financial need (may be considered).
Marty Cory Scholarship: The scholarship is for a student who is planning to study science, technology, or attend a trade school to become an electrician.
Marylou and Don Gatens Memorial Scholarship: Amount to be determined. The scholarship is based on athletic participation, academics, community involvement – financial need may be considered.
Noah Weaver Excellence in Community Scholarship: Scholarship for a City High graduating senior who has exhibited a strong commitment to community service throughout high school and aspirations to continue similar work after graduation. Students must include a letter of recommendation from a faculty or community member and submit a short essay (1000 words max) showcasing their experiences in community service thus far and their desire to continue similar initiatives at the collegiate level. Attempt to answer the following question: What does community service mean to you?
Neu Scholarship: Awarded to graduating seniors who demonstrate good character. Open to all majors and post-secondary
school.
"The OPY" Opstad Award for Theatre and Film Scholarship: Awarded to a graduating senior going into Theatre or Film from the Robert & Yvette Jury family.
Robert P. Stack Memorial Scholarship: Amount to be determined. Plan to attend and be admissible to the University of Iowa. Based on academics, activities, volunteer/service, character, future potential – financial need will be considered.
Sidney and Janice Tribbey Family Scholarship: scholarship for a senior planning to attend the University of Iowa. Based on demonstrated academic excellence (college prep curriculum, GPA, standardized test scores).
Skylar Moss Foundation Scholarship: scholarship for a male, multi-sport athlete, must have a 2.75 or higher GPA, demonstrate leadership at school or in the community, demonstrate good behavior/character, and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college/university.
The Hirt Scholarship - The amount for the scholarship is equivalent to the FULL tuition cost of in-state full time undergraduate tuition at the University of Iowa. Open to ANY accredited college, university or trade/vocational school. This scholarship is renewable.
The Little Hawk Promise Scholarship: City High school graduating senior who plans to attend Kirkwood Community College. Scholarship provides financial assistance for tuition, fees, books, and other college-related expenses. Financial need
will be considered to the extent this scholarship will make the student's post high school education more
likely.
The James W Hughes Distinguished Citizenship Award- The James W. Hughes Distinguished Citizenship Award recognizes graduating City high seniors who demonstrate a commitment to good citizenship. At minimum one annual award.
