Two Shift Lunch Pilot Program

Dear City High Families and Staff,

We are excited to inform you that City High will pilot a new two-shift lunch model from September 23 through October 10, 2024. Currently, we operate a three-shift lunch model. This pilot will explore how different lunch schedules can better accommodate our students, minimize interruptions to academic time, and improve overall lunchtime efficiency.

Here are the details of the two-shift lunch pilot:

Lunch Shifts:

1st Lunch: 11:38 AM - 12:19 PM
Reset Period: 12:19 PM - 12:33 PM (No lunches served during this time)
2nd Lunch: 12:33 PM - 1:14 PM

We will be closely monitoring key metrics such as student participation, lunchtime behaviors, and feedback from students, families, and staff to evaluate the effectiveness of this model.

Survey and Feedback Process:

Survey Dates: October 4 - October 8, 2024 (Survey open to students, staff, and families)
Communication on Pilot Status: In mid-October, staff and families will be informed whether the two-shift lunch model will continue for the remainder of the year.

Seating Capacity and Locations:

Students can eat in the cafeteria (both levels), the old commons, the foyer near the old gym, and outdoor spaces.
We will add more seating to ensure enough space for everyone.
Juniors and seniors will still have open campus privileges.

We will review the pilot based on several factors, including feedback, student attendance during 4th and 5th periods, lunchtime behaviors, food prep and delivery time, and participation rates. Our goal is to ensure that the lunch periods meet the needs of all students and staff.
